TWB Strengthens the Technical Writing Value Chain in India

Bangalore, February 16, 2007: The Writers Block (TWB) has formally launched its placement programme - TWB OnCampus. This placement program, a first of its kind in the field of technical writing India, allows all successful candidates of the TWB certification programs to participate in placements from companies hiring directly from TWB. TWB OnCampus marks a step towards the institutionalisation and strengthening of the technical writing value chain that has been initiated and developed by TWB since 2005. TWB is India’s leading provider of technical documentation outsourcing and training services and runs the professionally valued TWB Fundamental and TWB Associate certifications programmes. TWB OnCampus aims to provide its graduates with the best placement options with top IT companies.

TWB OnCampus is an innovative placement programme that is fortified by two equally strong initiatives - TWB Alumni and TWB Mentorship. Together TWB OnCampus, TWB Alumni and TWB Mentorship provide a value chain that is the first of its kind in the field of technical writing education in India. TWB Alumni is an active community of former TWB students. The Alumni, through the medium of blogs, mailing lists and other formal and informal media, keep each other informed about the latest trends and developments in the field of technical writing. TWB Alumni also keeps members informed about job openings and opportunities for career development.

The TWB Mentorship program has been created specifically for the purpose of providing support and mentoring to students even after their course is over. TWB Mentorship enables TWB graduates to get support in terms of domain knowledge and related assistance for at least a period of three months after their graduation.
Former TWB students affirm the importance of this integrated value chain. According to Shruti Yogendra, a former TWB student who has been placed through TWB OnCampus, “During my interview with Aztech Soft, I was asked about a certain type of documentation, which I had no clue about. I told the interviewer that I would get the necessary information from my senior. He then asked me what I would do if my senior was unable to help me. I told him that it wouldn’t be a problem, I could always return to TWB where I can get all the mentorship and guidance I need!”

TWB addresses the dire need in the software industry for high quality technical writing. While in most developed software markets approximately 5-7% of the technical workforce is committed to technical documentation, in India that figure is estimated to be only about 0.1%. This represents a latent need for approximately 100,000 trained technical writers in India over the next few years. Companies in the U.S. and other countries can hire university graduates with professional writing degrees to work on technical documentation, whereas in India there are hardly any institutes that provide training to produce good quality technical writers. TWB aims to fill this gap for the Indian IT companies through  our rigorous and well established training programmes.
